Is the key to just be far enough ahead of the convoy that you can essentially be in position already and can just sit or move at 2knots and already be close enough to fire? With the unfortunate luck of horrible storms for the last two weeks of the patrol so it’s made me lean away from impact setting on my eels, but I know early war magnetic fuses had a lot of issues. Mostly with the horrible storms I’ve had, it makes it impossible to get a range if they are more than a 1km-2km away. How close do you guys try to get for a firing solution? I have a lot of trouble shooting at anything over 1km, although I know historically Uboats (Prien) would fire at 3-4km if he couldn’t get closer. I’m assuming they hear me just through their hydrophones correct? Do escorts constantly use active sonar, or only when you hear their pings? Could they hear me with Active sonar at 5-8km, because I think it’s more likely their hydrophones.ĭo you guys have any tips in getting into position to attack a convoy? Ive learned patience and stealth is the name of the game, and to let a convoy go rather than risking my boat bc I can’t get a firing position and lose my career. Both times I’ve been heard by the escorts who promptly come straight for my location. This often results in having to move at flank speed at periscope depth to move the last 1km-3km to get within range. I have been unsuccessful so far in attacking each convoy as I struggle to get into position far enough ahead of the convoy to get good firing solutions. I’ve come across two convoys so far, each just NW and SE of the Irish coast. I started a new career and am at the start of the war in mid September 1939, using a Type 7B with the 2nd flotilla. Tanker was roughly 6 knots, I believe.So I recently picked up playing gwx again after trying it out earlier last year and getting annoyed with saved games getting corrupted.

I should say, sh4 1.5 steam version with (obviously) RFB 2.0 installed (no other mods with RFB). Never run in to this before though, so it begs the question.Anyone have any insight? I use my sonar a lot, so its a bit of a deal breaker if it's RFB related (I hope not.

Posted it here rather than the mod section since I have a hard time believing the RFB crew let that one slip through (nice mod, btw). This was my first encounter with RFB installed (ran with stock for an embarrassingly long time, TMO + OTC since), so I'm wondering if this is an issue with RFB. My Sonarman could hear her consistently (submerged or otherwise), and once she got close enough I could even manually ping her using the bearing given by the sonarman, but still couldn't hear the screws. The whole time I couldn't hear so much as a fart on the hydrophone.

Followed it, plotted rough course, perfect setup. I came across said juicy target, first spotted by the deck watch. So I just had an interesting encounter with a Large Modern Tanker NW of Truk. First post after many a year of off-and-on playing.
